Something Bigger At Work Here

There are times in my ministry that makes me wonder where I am going with my sacramental duties and for all those duties and responsibilities that I have - where are they all leading me and what do they all REALLY mean. Perhaps, to put in a simpler way, why am I here doing what I am doing?...

I got an inkling of an answer this morning from a parishioner who is an Indian foreign worker. She came to thank me after mass and this was what she communicated to me. Recently her eyesight was pretty bad and seemed to be getting worse. But one day as she came up to me after mass as was her usual custom, her sight became normal and could see better and she felt some 'power' emanating from me. She thanked me for that 'healing' and left me with a foolish grin on my face as I couldn't make any head or tail of what to make of her story. I was glad that she was 'healed' but for me to be that instrument?!... Coincidence? Don't know!

The homily which I shared this weekend also has pierced some hardened hearts when I spoke of how mostly we do not live up to our calling as Christians and live a lie by name only. I had to give confessions after mass over three separate timings during the course of the day.

Then, there is this parishioner from my home parish of St Bernadette who met me and told me that he just shifted to the Katong area. Jokingly he said he shifted here because he heard I was in this church. Then he went on to say that he and some older members from St Bern's are preparing to write a petition to get the Archbishop to post me to St Bern's when the next round of shifting exercise comes by. They also liked the way I conducted my confessions...

I was like, huh?!... what gives?

Of course, I didn't pay much attention to all those and let them be. Too early or perhaps too coincidental of the nonsense kind to follow up even seriously in all this. Still, they are all very intriguing...
